They need to log in to the JoSAA portal and submit a withdrawal request in the prescribed format. The uploaded document will be verified by the reporting officer. They will either accept the request, reject it or raise a query to get additional documentation and/or to reconfirm that the aspirant is interested in withdrawing.

Aspirants will also have the option to cancel a submitted withdrawal request through the online JoSAA portal, but only before the reporting officer accepts the request. Candidates must keep their login credentials, i.e. login Id and password, in a safe place. It is strictly confidential to prevent any misuse. How to Withdraw Seats in JEE Counselling 2026? Step-by-Step Guide

An aspirant who has already accepted a seat in one of the IITs allotted by JoSAA can withdraw the seat by reporting online and completing all the required steps. This option can be used from the 2nd round to the second last round of seat allocation, i.e. before the last round of seat allocation [i.e. if JoSAA organises a total of six rounds of seat allocation, candidates can withdraw up until the fifth round of the seat acceptance period]. 

For the NIT+ System, the aspirant can withdraw the seat by reporting online and completing all the steps up to the final round of online seat allocation. Here is the step-by-step guide on withdrawal of an accepted/allotted seat in JEE Counselling:

• Go to the official JoSAA portal.
• Log in with your valid credentials.
• Next, submit a withdrawal request. You need to submit a duly signed declaration form within the deadline.
• An OTP will be sent to your mobile number and email ID. You need to use this OTP to confirm that you want to withdraw from the seat allocation process. You will also confirm that this will lead to the cancellation of the allocated seat and will not be considered for the next stages of seat allocation (if any). 
• The reporting officer will verify the uploaded document/request. Based on the verification, one of the following things will happen: 

1. The reporting officer will accept the request. Your withdrawal request is accepted.
2. The reporting officer will reject the request based on the submitted documents and/or query response. Your withdrawal request is rejected. 
3. The reporting officer raises a query asking for additional documentation and/or to reconfirm that you are interested in withdrawing. You will be required to respond to the query within the deadline. The reporting officer will either accept or reject based on the query response, or raise another query, and the above steps will be repeated.

Note: Aspirants can view the approved/rejected status of the withdrawal request on the JoSAA portal. They need to download the approval/rejection letter. If the withdrawal application is rejected, they can submit the request again before the end of the fifth round of counselling with proper documents. 

They will also get the option to cancel a submitted withdrawal request through the online JoSAA portal. This can happen only before the reporting officer accepts the request. An OTP will be sent to their mobile number and email ID for the cancellation of their withdrawal request. They can use this OTP to confirm that they want to cancel the withdrawal request from the seat allocation process.
